Certification Must-Have: Experience in critical care nursing,
ability to float to other units Description: This position is for a
Medical ICU, which consists of a 20 bed mixed ICU and Step Down
unit. The unit features a combination of ICU 2:1 staffing and
Stepdowns at 3:1. Nurses may be required to float to the sister
unit for step down and progressive level patients. The patient
population includes severe respiratory failure, which may require
mechanical ventilation or high-flow oxygen support. Conditions
treated also include sepsis and septic shock, which often
necessitate vasopressors, invasive monitoring, and aggressive fluid
management. Nurses will handle hemodynamic instability, including
hypotension, arrhythmias, or shock states. Neurologic conditions
such as altered mental status, metabolic encephalopathy, overdose,
or stroke are common. The unit cares for complex metabolic and
endocrine disorders, including diabetic ketoacidosis and severe
electrolyte abnormalities. Heart failure exacerbations and other
cardiac conditions that do not require immediate intervention are
also part of the care scope. Gastrointestinal and hepatic failure
cases are managed, which can include GI bleeding and acute liver
failure. Typical patient needs and acuity include continuous
cardiac and hemodynamic monitoring. Nurses will deal with invasive
lines, such as arterial lines. NIH and TNK therapies may also be
administered. Mechanical ventilation and noninvasive ventilation,
as well as advanced oxygen therapies, are utilized. Titrated IV
medications, including vasopressors, sedatives, insulin, and
antiarrhythmics, are given based on patient needs. Enteral or
parenteral nutrition is often required. Frequent laboratory
monitoring and complex medication regimens are a standard part of
