Connected Solutions (DDCS) organization within Eli Lilly and
Company supports the design, development, and commercialization of
drug products and pharmaceutical delivery systems, including
medical devices and container closure systems. This position is in
the Computational Engineering team in DDCS, which plays a crucial
role in enabling a rich pipeline of novel delivery devices.
Responsibilities include developing mathematical models to predict
behavior of components used in primary packaging and device
delivery systems. This involves a fundamental understanding of
mechanical systems, materials, and mechanics involved in modeling
their functionality. Key Objectives / Deliverables: Use in silico
approaches to drive design improvements and mitigate technical risk
in early and late phase device development Work with DDCS engineers
and third parties to ensure proper physical testing is being
performed to obtain accurate inputs for computational models
Prepare and review appropriate portions of regulatory documents
(IND/ CTX, CTD and annual updates) and key technical reports as it
applies to simulation and modeling Interact with third parties, as
needed, for external modeling and component design Clearly
communicate relevant product and process risks based on numerical
modeling results to ensure risks are relayed to DDCS management and
appropriate business partners Stay abreast of relevant new and
current technologies, capabilities, and regulatory expectations,
guidelines and requirements; effectively share gained knowledge
with others; and identify opportunities for implementation Work
collaboratively with cross functional teams to accelerate time to
market of patient centered designs Demonstrated ability to
supervise CAE work being done internally and externally Coach and
mentor more junior engineers Ensure adequate prioritization of the
projects and distribute work among the team; manage the day-to-day
operation of the CAE team. Ensure individual and departmental
compliance with the laws, regulations, guidelines, procedures, and
practices governing drug research and development, including the
departmental and corporate standard operating, good manufacturing,
and safety procedures Ensure that people and their environment are
safe and that company policies concerning safety are followed Basic
Qualifications: Ph. D. in Mechanical Engineering, or a related
field; or MS degree in Mechanical Engineering, or a related field,
with 5 years of related experience. Demonstrated expertise in
advanced nonlinear analysis - particularly contact modeling,
multiphysics, explicit dynamics, and material model calibration for
elastomers/ plastics Additional Skills/Preferences: Strong
expertise in at least one commercial solver (e.g., Abaqus), and
familiarity with others (e.g., Ansys, HyperMesh, COMSOL) Knowledge
of design for manufacturing Knowledge of plastic part design
guidelines Knowledge of the design control process for medical
devices (e.g., ISO 13485) Experience with ASME V&V 40 Standard
Ability to take ownership of project work and complete work
according to project timelines Outstanding interpersonal skills and
the ability to work efficiently as a team in an interdisciplinary
environment Strong written communication skills, including
technical report writing Effective problem solving and
decision-making skills Demonstrated ability to provide technical

on a candidate’s education, experience, skills, and geographic
location. The anticipated wage for this position is $123,750 -
$198,000 Full-time equivalent employees also will be eligible for a
company bonus (depending, in part, on company and individual
performance). In addition, Lilly offers a comprehensive benefit
